Week 3 Discussion Foundations -Benjamin Johnson

THIS IS ONLY AN INTERPRETATION, FIVE SENTENCES AND A QUESTION IS ALL I NEED. TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS, HAVE REFERENCESSuggest additional criteria for determining whether an article is peer-reviewed.Offer an additional situation in which using a resource that is not peer-reviewed would be acceptable. In
the library it is difficult to find peer review article, especially
when you search a sort title such as “Civil Laws”. Although there is an
option on the Walden University Library website to select rather you
want to search only peer review articles, it seems to give you articles
that don’t coincide with the topic you’re looking for. Matt states that
scholarly articles can come in all shapes and sizes depending on the
subject being covered and the type of research being performed. For
example, a scholarly article by an expert in the Humanities will write
what is called a literature review, wherein they discuss a work of art
(book, painting, etc …) and their research will be based off of what
previous experts have written about that piece. However, a scholarly
article by an expert in a Science field may write about an experiment
they have performed, and discuss their results and how it relates to
previous research (Matt, 2011). The article I choose which is considered
an academic journal title is “Diversity, disparate impact, and
discrimination pursuant to Title VII of US civil rights laws”. This
particular article proved to be a peer reviewed article based on the
purpose, findings and research of the journal. The disadvantages of peer
review writings is that peer reviewers have not got an easy job
spotting conflicts of interest, such as the source of a researcher’s
funding, only that the research was followed to acceptable protocols
(Shuttleworth, 2018). According to Shuttleworth there are no grading
systems about the quality of the peer review. Different journals have
different standards, and there is no way to know the expertise and
quality of the reviewers or editor. In the past, less reputable journals
generally had a smaller readership, but the internet has made them just
as likely to be accessed and used. Shuttleworth also states that the
advantages of peer reviews is that peer reviewing allows a diversity of
opinions to be brought to the table, theoretically removing any personal
biases and pre-set ideas from the equation. The peer review process
stops a lot of substandard and poor science from reaching publication.
In addition, the reviewers are generally experts in their field, well
acquainted with the latest developments. They can, therefore, reject
duplicate research and plagiarized papers (Shuttleworth, 2018).
