The Johari Window categorizes self-disclosure into four quadrants – The Open Self, The Hidden Self, The Blind Self, and The Unknown Self. This assignment encourages you to become more self-aware by examining three of your relationships.

Instructions:
1. Reread the Johari Window section of chapter three in your book.
2. Choose three people, from different aspects of your life.
3. Reflect on how you present yourself differently to each of the three. Think about the Open Self and Hidden Self quadrants that you would make in a Johari window for each person.
4. Have a conversation with each person to learn about what types of things you are blind to from each person. Are there any habits or character traits that more than one person pointed out? If so, you might want to consider a modification to this behavior, if needed.
5. Use the information you have collected about the Open, Hidden, and Blind Selves to reflect on your Unknown Self.
6. Write a paper describing what you learned about yourself and your relationships through this activity.
7. Review the grading guide and proof read your paper to ensure it satisfies the assignment.

• Basic MLA formatting should be used, although no MLA citations are necessary. Since this is a reflection paper, you may use first-person voice when writing.

Johari Window Grading Guide

Introduction (10 pts) __________
You have an introduction that clearly introduces the reader to the topic and purpose of the paper. You have introduced those interviewed. You have given an overview of what a Johari window is. Your introduction previews all the major sections of the paper.

The Four Selves (60 pts) __________
You have addressed each self separately in its own labeled section. In each self’s section, you compare and contrast the individuals involved, you identify who you share each self with, what you share and do not share with each of them, when you are likely to share each type of information, and why you share or do not share with each individual. Each section is written in paragraph form with no bullet points. Each section uses specific examples from your interviews to substantiate your claims.

Reflection (10 pts) __________
You have included your perception of the communication behaviors you held before participating in the assignment. You have discussed what you learned about your communication practices from the interactions of the assignment. You have also included how you will change your communication practices based on what you learned.

Writing (20 pts) __________
You have proof-read your paper and you have no errors in spelling or grammar. You have properly used MLA style to cite your sources. You have included section headings. You have typed your paper using 12 pt. TIMES NEW ROMAN font. You have 1” margins, and you double spaced the text. This paper should be about 3-5 pages.
